Roth and Vice President Bruno Erni's tenure are over, therefore the Swiss Gambling Supervisory Authority (Gespa) will be getting a new leadership.

Roth has served the public throughout his life, and from its inception in 2006, he has presided over Gespa (previously Comlot). In the years leading up to that, he represented Jura in the Council of States beginning in 1987 and continued serving as a member of the Canton of Jura's governing council beginning in 1994.

Noting that "His vast experience has shaped Gespa significantly over the past 15 years," Gespa paid tribute to Roth's work.

Also with extensive experience in the public sector is Cina, who will succeed Roth. He led the Conference of Cantonal Governments for a number of years while serving as State Councillor of the Canton of Valais from 2005 to 2017. He is a lawyer by profession.

Cina advocated for a number of causes throughout his political career; one of these was a rule prohibiting high-risk sports, which was passed in Valais in 2007 and subsequently enforced on a federal level in 2010. He presently serves as the head of the Swiss public broadcasting company SRG SSR's board of directors.

Upon taking office in January, Cina's term will commence and end on December 31, 2025. Professor Pascal Mahon's seat on the Supervisory Board will be filled by legal expert Jean-Marc Rapp, and Mirjam Webber will replace Bruno Erni, the current vice president.

"The members of the Supervisory Board and Gespa as an organisation are deeply grateful for the dedication and service they have provided over the years," Gespa stated. 

"Their early involvement was crucial to the Authority's formation, and they have since done much to improve and standardise oversight of skill money games, sports betting, and lotteries."
