The Finish Police Board levied a fine of €2.5 million ($2.7 million) against Betsson for advertising gambling in the nation.

It was discovered that the operator has "targeted Mainland Finland in its advertising on multiple channels for an extensive period," even though Betsson does not have a licence to operate in the Nordic country.

According to a statement from the Finnish Police, Betsson shifted its marketing focus away from mainland Finland but retained its previous outlets following the hearing. 

"The National Police Board estimated that BML Group has significant financial interest in continuing the activities and found that the illegal activities have continued for a long time regardless of the National Police Board’s previous control measures," the police released a statement on.

Additionally, Betsson was directed to "not publish any new sales promotion material targeting Mainland Finland on its gambling websites, remove all previously published sales promotion material from them and refrain from marketing on other websites in the future as well."

Betsson has the option to appeal the decision, but the punitive action will be implemented on June 3rd.

This announcement follows Betsson's first quarter 2023 gross profit of €147.5m, an increase of 38% from the same period in 2022.

"For 60 years, we have been offering entertainment in the form of casino games, sports betting and other types of games," said Pontus Lindwall, president and chief executive officer of Betsson AB, of the report.

When it comes to Betsson's opinion on how the business should be handled and how value is created for shareholders, having a long-term perspective is crucial.
